Montrose County is governed by a three-member BOCC as mandated by the State Constitution. The commissioners are elected at large, though they represent the district of the county in which they reside, for four-year staggered terms.

The BOCC provides leadership and vision in guiding Montrose County government. It is the policy-making body of county government, and as such it is charged with overseeing the organization and budgets of a wide variety of County programs to benefit citizens.
In addition to its broad fiscal responsibilities, the BOCC:
Makes appointments to various community boards and commissions
Acts as the Board of Equalization, Board of Social Services, Liquor License Authority, and Board of Health
